“Now, I just keep making songs as I like.„
KarenT, digital music label featuring Hatsune Miku by Crypton has released a special album "Time To Say Hello" for celebrating the first Hatsune Miku concert in Hong Kong & Taiwan. MIKUBOOK interviewed one of participating artist "Last Note." This question list is from fans on Hatsune Miku facebook page. Thank you and enjoy!
-Where did you get your name Last note. from?
When you put on perfume, the fragrance changes little by little and we call base notes of perfume “last note”. The word sounded beautiful and I wanted to create music which lasts till the end, so I took this name
-Where do you usually get your inspirations from?
I love reading very much and read around 30 novels a month.
Becoming hyper by reading books may make me start songwriting, I guess.
-How do your family/friends react when they know that you are using Vocaloid to make music?
My family don’t understand Vocaloid well enough, I think. They wouldn’t understand if I would explain about it…
Some of my friends wondered why I use Vocaloid, not human vocalists.
But I keep using Vocaloid because I believe there are things we can do only with it.
-The idea of Akatsuki Arrival - How did you hit on that?
First of all, I intended to make a song features duet of Miku and Luka like “One-step Layered”, my first work posted on the Internet, after such a long time.
I considered how I should set up the relationship between Miku and Luka if I get them to sing, and then I thought making them rivals would work to expand the story.
With the help of illustration and video, I think the song was finished as a good work.
-I really love Renai Yuusha, why did you decide to make it hero-themed?
I thought there should be songs about heroes who are not always good-looking but amiable, so I made it. Glad to receive comments like “I’ve got a friend like him!”
-What is the biggest problem you face as a composer, and how are you working on overcoming it?
It’s inevitable to be asked for songs which sound like my hit tunes, but it will make me exhausted to keep making similar ones.
I’ll try changing direction of my songs, but I want to get personality and charm that are strong enough to make my works recognized as “Last Note’s songs” by just listening to them.
Now, I just keep making songs as I like.
-How do you feel that you have fans overseas?
Reading comments on the songs copied on YouTube, I am glad to find overseas fans listen to my works.
Subtitles of translated lyrics, sung by overseas listeners and sometimes talked to on Twitter… They all link to my motivation.
-What advice would you have for those who want to compose (especially Vocaloid music)?
Don’t try high-quality works from the beginning. It is better to start something you can within your capacity.
Then you will get various opinions on your works and start communication from it. You may be able to befriend with someone.
The important thing is to take one step forward to take a real action, I think.
-Thank you very much!
